First Home Study Visit Done!

Good evening all! Hope this find you all well!
We had our first of three home study visits tonight with our social worker, Jillian. It was great to meet her in person! We both found her to be very personable and down to earth and felt very comfortable opening up to her.
During this first visit we reviewed many of the details that we learned in our initial introductory meeting. The refresher was nice since there are so many details to learn and remember. Jillian had several "interview" style questions for us...and we had many questions for her too!
During our next home study visit Jillian will actually come to our home. They use such 'customer friendly' terminology, which is kind of nice! So instead of doing an "inspection" of our home she will be "touring" our home! :) The tour is basically to assure that we can provide a safe environment to raise a baby/child in. We will also work on an openness questionnaire with her that will ask some really tough questions about different circumstances and our willingness to give consideration to accepting a child coming from such circumstances. Examples would include a family history of mental illness (like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc), or if the birth mother is addicted to and uses drugs, alcohol, etc. These are hard questions to answer and require lots of thought, discussion, and prayer on our part.
Now on to the exciting news--although we are maintaining our composure!!! As discussed in a previous post, the agency caps their waiting list for a domestic Caucasian newborn at twenty-two adoptive parents/families. We had prepared ourselves to "wait to be placed on the waiting list" once our home study was complete. Tonight we were delighted to learn that we are actually already on the waiting list, and that currently there are only eleven families waiting. There are also already five expected births/placements expected between January and March of 2010. I'm not sure how many more placements could occur in 2009. Essentially, once our home study is complete and approved we could receive that call at any time. This was very exciting for us and we are truly hopeful that our wait will not be as long as we anticipated. We keep in the fore-front of our minds that the birth mother will be choosing us and there is no time frame for that, so we need to continue to be patient!
Interesting tid-bit of information: A few people have asked us, "could you get twins?" The answer is yes and we would be delighted if that would happen!!!! During 2009 there was one set of twins placed with an adoptive family. Also (and this is freakishly coincidental!!!!), of the 17 babies that have been placed so far in 2009 through the Bethany office that we are working with 16 of the babies were BOYS! WOW! The agency has never had a trend quite like this one and all of the social workers are baffled!

All of the "homework" that we have had to do over the past several weeks has been a cinch compared to the passing of time waiting for that magical phone call to come! We prayer for patience and understanding and acceptance of circumstances beyond our control and appreciate your prayers in these areas for us!
